"Audrey Hepburn has been an idol of mine for many years. She suffered from self doubt for most of her younger career, but became more beautiful in my opinion on the inside and out as she aged.
Starting this second Model/Acting career last summer (in my 49th year) was both humbling and empowering.
Fashion is for everyone not only for the under Thirty, 5'11'' ladies!
I have auditioned for several roles usually for print work or commercials and as with everything, you win some and you lose some - but you learn something every single time."
Special Thanks,
To all the amazing Fashion Designers and Models who have come before us, you all have given us a Great Standard to live up to.

Detail
I hate detail. I love accents or little touches but they must always be importantnot insignificant. The small detail is something very cheap and not elegant at all.
Although it has another meaning you must be elegant in every detail of your dress from head to foot. Then detail is important.

As all fashion enthusiasts know, a decade never gets left behind. It always reappears in new design interpretations and the best of it can be appreciated forever. The Fifties and Sixties incapsulate something transitory about clothing.
It was a time when the changes in lifestyle and social dynamics created a hotbed of opposing looks. As always with Opposition and Struggle comes Greatness!

GLOVES
The Fifties introduced a plethora of styles to serve different occasions and outfits.
Short kid gloves for formal daywear were firm favorites alongside the closer cut shapes for driving.
To compliment the shoulder lines on all those fabulous strapless gowns, long satin gloves were worn in the evening.
Wearing mid-length pairs pushed down to the wrists with bold, heavy bracelets over the top was fashionable.
With the thinner pairs, large costume rings could be worn over the top for
maximum effect.

What's the best way to wear
Barely-There lipstick without looking washed out?
Think pink instead of taking the word nude too literally, as lips are flushed not flesh tone Avoid shades with brown or beige undertones, and choose a pinky taupe or copper instead. The most flattering shades are close to your natural lip color, with a subtle shimmer or shine.
We like the rosy coral and gold ribbon in Nars Beautiful Liar $24 narscosmetics.combecause its barely there but flattering, like fancy lingerie for the lips.

Fuse BeautyTip:
1.) Prime your eyes with NYX Eye Shadow Base
and then apply an even coat of
NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow
Pencil in Black Bean all over
the lid, up to the crease
and on the lower lash line.
Remember to not go past the crease.
2.) With a shader brush carefully pad NYX Single Eyeshadow in Black all over where you place the Black Bean Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencil.
3.) Take a flat stiff angle brush, dip it in NYX Single Eyeshadow in Dark Brown and kind of make a winged cat eye heading to the end of your brow up out of the dark black eyeshadow near the outer corner of your eye.
4.) Next, is to take a blending brush and blend out the harsh black line. Don't blend it too much or it will make a noticeable transition color, just blend it to the point where the black line will get lighter making it look like a dark brown, not really a black.
5.) The last step for the eyeshadows are highlighting the brow bone and inner corner. To do that take NYX Single Eye Shadow in White Pearl with a highlighting brush and just place it under the brow bone and inner corner.
Try this Holiday look!

EYES!
6.) Take NYX Slim Eye Pencil in Black and line your tide line which is your upper waterline.
7.) Apply a coat of NYX Doll Eye Mascara in Volume-Black and apply NYX Fabulous Lashes in number 144 Disco Queen.
Cheeks:
1.) For those peachy pink cheeks, just take an angle blush brush and take NYX Powder Blush in Mocha and apply it focusing on the back of the cheekbone and blend it up to the temple.
Lips:
1.) Make sure your lips are moisturized and apply NYX Jumbo Lip Pencil in Deep Red all over the lips.
2.) Take NYX Round Lipstick in Shiva and carefully apply it on top of the Deep Red Jumbo Lip Pencil.
3.) The last step is to take a NYX Mega Shine Lip Gloss in Sunrise to top everything off.

Over-plucked , pencil thin eyebrows have long been at the top of our beauty don'ts list!
The latest trends are now on our side. Of the many gorgeous fall beauty ideas from the Fall/Winter 2011 runways, the strong brows at shows like Alexander Wang and Oscar de la Renta ranked high among our favorites.
Bold brows are great for a number of reasons. They work on literally everyone, can be worn for day or night and instantly polish even the simplest of looks. Even if you're not a big makeup person or you're having a particularly low-maintenance day, a quick brow grooming can work wonders in making you look pulled together.

The most beautiful women in Hollywood all currently sport the new, fuller face furniture: Sienna Miller (as seen on a recent cover of U.S. Vogue), Jennifer Connolly, Kate Winslet, Madonna and Natalie Portman all have brows that are very thick, very straight and very defined.
This trend started on the catwalks last autumn, with models sporting brows almost worthy of Frida Kahlo (the artist who looked as though two slugs were nestling above her lashes).
In the 1930's, the biggest stars, from Marlene Dietrich to Carole Lombard and Greta Garbo, all had a perfect, very fine arc painted on, quite high on the face, giving a permanently surprised expression.
The theory was that the woman's place was to be decorative and overgroomed, not in the workplace, which clearly was the realm of men.
Brows grew thicker during wartime, when there was no time to spend hours drawing on one's face and peering into a magnifying mirror.
The last time we saw brows as thick as the ones we're seeing now was back in the early Eighties, with actresses such as Brooke Shields and Mariel Hemingway sporting huge great caterpillars above a relatively unadorned face.
The Brooke brow was a welcome departure from what we had seen in the Sixties and Seventies, when an overplucked arch was all the rage, suggesting women were happy to be treated like little girls.
In the mid-to-late-Eighties, supermodels, from Christie Brinkley to Cindy Crawford, followed Brooke's example, sporting commendably bushy brows that gave out the clear signal that these women were not to be messed with.
26
Fuse Beauty Tip:
Alternate between brows as you pluck. This will help keep them symmetrical.
PERFECT PLUCKING
Barbara Daly, makeup artist and cosmetic designer says, "Whatever the current fashion, thick or thin, eyebrows should follow your natural line - beginning where the curve of your brow bone meets the top of your nose and ending wherever it stops growing naturally.
The best time to pluck is after a bath or shower when the skin is clean and smooth. Find a good light and a mirror (the magnifying kind are best). Tie your hair up off your face and wipe the brow with a mild antiseptic solution (water with a little tea tree oil would be fine).
With an old, clean toothbrush, brush the brows upward and outward and then with a sharp brow pencil draw a fine line to define the lower edge of your desired shape. Apart from very stray hairs, don't pluck from the top edge of your brows as this will ruin their natural arc.
Using a good pair of flat-edged tweezers with a reliable pinch, pull the stray hairs away (in the direction of growth to avoid breakage) to create a smooth, curved line from end to end.
Some people find it less painful to pull the skin taut with one hand before plucking out hairs with the other.
When you have finished, wipe the area again with your antiseptic, smooth on some moisturiser, then brush into shape with the toothbrush."
INSIDER TIP: Alternate between brows as you pluck. This will help keep them symmetrical.

Dear Maddie,
The thought of the upcoming holiday parties, with my face and neck on show for all my colleagues and relatives to see, is causing a panic! What do you suggest? (I am on a tight budget and would like a one time treatment with minimum down time.)
Lori C,
Castro Valley.
The leaves are falling - a chill is in the air! This is a sign to "ready" our skin for the holiday season and to repair from the summer sun. It is time to really look at ourselves and decide what we want to improve or treat a little more aggressively over the winter months. The key here is to set realistic goals -
Do you have uneven sun damage pigment?
Are those expression lines a little more defined than you would like?
Do you have an uneven texture?
Is there a dullness, lack of brightness?
Are your pores enlarged?
Are you using the same home care products as last winter?
I am guessing yes is the answer to most of these questions! Now it is time to schedule that appointment - which resurfacing peel is right for your skin? There is nothing more effective at treating all of the above than a peel treatment, some flaking and shedding is GOOD! Without this cell renewal your products just sit on the surface of your skin, and your collagen production which decreases as we age is given a BOOST like no other treatment!
A 45 minute treatment - a few days of flaking, improvement in 10 days which continues for months!
The key post treatment is - nourishment. The right ingredients in the right quantity at the right time.
Don't be the turkey this holiday! Contact me for a consultation.........
Enjoy looking your best.

Make up and Beauty Products always a woman's first love..........
Trying to look better is not something that we invented right now. People, mostly women in general have always had a soft spot for beauty products for fashion and for glamorous styles. As the years passed maybe we have found new ideas on how to look better, but the essential things remain the same. Nowadays, the 50's, 60's or 70's trends come back and influence our own modern looks. The fifties were the beginning of cosmetics and very bright colors on a woman's face, mostly because in this period also appeared the colored tv screens and movies.
The fifties were a decade that supported family values but also combined with a certain liberty and fun. Just as now, women then, who were in the media's attention looked glamorous and very stylish. They were seen as beauty icons and everyone tried to copy them. Housewives were also very beautiful and always arranged. The fashion those days included tight corsages on the waist, belts, and big puffy hair, etc... The 1950's was also an era of high fashion and with it came a whole new slew of makeup and skincare trends. Skincare was just as important then as it is now. Women had fewer options than they have now when it comes to skincare products, but they found different innovative ways to look good and have a ceramic like face.
In the 1950's the "peaches and cream" complexion was the basis of all skincare trends. The foundations and pressed powders hid small imperfections but also gave women a pale look. The fifties was the era when everyone started to focus more on makeup than anything else. Skincare was essential because the constant application of makeup could ruin their complexion. The skincare and makeup market was headed back then by Max Factor, nowadays still a big brand. It's amazing to see how many products from those times have lasted until now.
The years during the 50 - 60 period were focusing mostly on makeup. From cat eye makeup to red lips and perfectly toned eyelids, to porcelain faces. Nowadays, this trend still exists, it keeps coming back. Many women prefer to wear red lips with pink blush on their cheeks and long eyelashes. Big eyes and full lips are a classic and will always be in trend, even though a beautiful women is beautiful in anything she wears, it's still something else to see one respecting fashion and makeup trends.
37
A perfect skincare is as essential now as it was back then, especially for celebrities. The cosmetic products were limited, women found natural ways in which they could be beautiful without buying any creams or mixes. In the end, we cannot say much about the 50's in regards to skincare. Makeup on the other hand reached another level and passed onto the next stage. Women nowadays still use a dark eyeliner and battle their eyelashes. Beauty doesn't change in time and the idea of beauty can be seen in any period or moment in time.
38
Individuality
Until the time we are converted into robots and I hope this time will never come, individuality will be always one of the conditions of real elegance.
Even if you cannot always have your clothes made to measure, try to find the ready-mades that exactly fit your personality.
In this period of mass production you may always find in the great variety of what is offered to you, something that is really your type. Try to understand well what is your personality and never forget that individuality does not mean eccentricity.
No elegant woman follows fashion slavishly. If a particular new line does not suit you, then ignore it. There is no one line each new season, there are many linesand it is up to you to exercise your own good taste in choosing the ones that are best for you.
Christian Dior, the little dictionary of fashion

Your Body Shape and Health
by Laura Dayton
Marilyn Monroe's oozing sexuality is a big reason why the hourglass figure is still sought after by women and coveted by men. It is actually a rather rare body type and it may not be the healthiest.
Determining Body Type: Everyone has heard of Apples and Pears, but the truth is that most women fall somewhere in between. One of the best indicators of body type is your Waist-to-Hip ratio. Calculate this by taking your waist measurement in inches, and divide it by your hip measurement in inches. For example, if you have a waist of 23 inches and hips that are 31 inches, your WHR is .074 (23 divided by 31 = .074), which is a Pear, or possibly Hourglass.
Pear Shapes: These are normally a WHR of .8 or less with small or average bust. These women carry most of their weight in their hips, and may live longer than Apple-shaped women who carry fat in their abdomens. Pears have a lower risk of heart disease. Typically, a WHR of 0.7 or less is associated with higher fertility and lower rates of chronic disease. Michelle Obama is a classic Pear.
Hourglasses: These are usually Pears with a WHR of .8 or less, with a large bust within two inches of their hips. Women with Hourglass figures can have 30 percent more estrogen than other women. As a result, they are three times more likely to get pregnant, according to a study by Harvard University. They share the same longevity of Pears, but may have a slightly higher incidence of breast cancer.
Apple Shapes: Studies indicate that nearly 50% of all women are Apples. Their WHR is .9 or larger. The body type is characterized by slim hips and thighs with larger bellies and flat behinds. Apples like Drew Barrymore aren't necessarily overweight. A woman with a waistline larger than 32 inches is at an increased risk of diabetes and heart attack. Most women will eventually become Apples due to estrogen loss. Authorities recommend Apples to consider HRT at menopause, and throughout their lives to keep their weight under control through healthy eating and regular exercise.
Rectangles: This shape has relatively equal measurements between the bust, waist and hip, and a WHR of .9 or higher. Rectangles are usually more competitive, physically stronger and better equipped to handle stress. Classic examples are Keira Knightley or Gwyneth Paltrow.
Shape Shifters:For the most part, the shape you are born into is the shape you'll be. Often, women don't realize their real body type until their 30's when their bodies have matured. You can't change your shape but you can change tendencies, especially belly fat.
Enjoy a low stress lifestyle, Yoga and/or meditation, drink plenty of water and dedicate yourself to a consistently high level of cardiovascular exercise.
42
Social unrest can also be viewed in fashion trends, such as the tie-dyed, homemade T-shirt of the sixties, and the flamboyant platform shoes of the seventies.
Some of us remember an era when women wouldn't consider going downtown without their gloves, and the men at the baseball game were wearing suits and fedoras.
The styles of the post war fifties reflect hope and positive energy bursting forth after years of war. In the fifties clothes made the man, and Coco Chanel had already affirmed if a woman wears the right dress people will remember the dress and the woman.
Space doesn't allow a complete review of all the categories on my list. The discussion of Duisenberg automobiles and bottles of Lafette-Rotheschild Champagne must be reserved for another time. Vintage music is something requiring much more discussion because the music provides a sound track for each of our biographies.
Perhaps the most common thread in vintage categories is the undeniable level of craftsmanship that lifted certain commodities to the level of true classics, things of beauty that are a joy forever. There is also the glow of remembering that special song in that special moment with that special someone, (you know what I mean.)
Vintage, representing the best of a period long gone by... When we describe something as vintage, we refer not only to the quality of that something, but to the feeling projected by it.
Vintage portrays the social climate of a time period, allowing us a glimpse of the dreams and concerns of those who've gone before us. It's fun to consider vintage categories, because it inevitably requires making lists of things that have grabbed our attention.
My vintage list is:
1. Clothing
2. Cars
3. Wine
4. Music
5. Jewelry
6. Furniture
7. Art
8. Books
9. Architecture
10. Boats & Airlplanes
Clothing provides a vast number of vintage considerations. The length of a woman's skirt was once considered a clear metaphor for the nations economy. If the skirts were short the economy was thriving. Long skirts portrayed more conservative, ridgid times.
43
The Way You Walk
Not so many years ago girls were taught how to walk and I think it was quite right. A lot of women today should go back to school again and learn the art of walking well because it is extremely important.
Many women have been known not for their beauty, but for their charm and their only charm was the way they walked. It is not easy to walk with dignity and lightness.
Some people have a natural gift for moving gracefully. But, if it does not come naturally to you then you have to cultivate the art. It is ridiculous to wear beautiful clothes and then slouch along or sit in a slovenly manner so that they quickly become creased like rags.
