Our faces change. It is important to re-evaluate and focus on the basics.
1. FOUNDATION Stick with a lightweight foundation. Buy two, always the same brand, one just a bit lighter then your current skin tone. Use the lighter foundation to cover age spots, use as an under eye concealer or cover uneven skin discoloration, then apply matching foundation as the final layer. Keeping things light makes all the difference in the world.
2. BLUSH Only apply blush from the top of your ear to the center of your eye, stay away from the apples of your cheeks. Again stick with a light touch.
3. EYES Mascara only is fine. Create a strong impact by applying two coats of brown and a third coat of black. Evaluate the brand you are currently using. Does it still work for you? If not, experiment with new brands. Our lashes change dramatically over time.
4. LIPSTICK Color is important so choose wisely. Use a lip primer to avoid color runs in the creases of your lips; and always work with a longlasting lipstick or lip dye.
"I am not going to tell you how to reverse the aging process in thirty days. This book examines how the aging process works, why we age in the first place, and how it will affect us physically and emotionally." CAMERON DIAZ
LEARNING-- Her first step to aging gracefully was to learn about it. In the book, Yale researcher Dr. Becca Levy, who has been studying the correlation between positivity and longevity since the '90s, confirms that people who embrace aging with positive attitudes have improved physical ability, among other benefits, compared to their pessimistic peers. One of Dr. Levy's studies found that simply learning about aging yields quantifiable health benefits comparable to those typically achieved from exercise.
FRIENDS-- Your emotional health is just as important as your physical well-being, and long-term stress can take a toll on your body and increase mortality.
Reaching out to friends and strengthening social connections has never been more important, especially as more studies report that increasing numbers of adults are experiencing loneliness and isolation.
A MEDITERRANEAN DIET-- According to Diaz, a recent study traced individuals over the course of four years who followed the Mediterranean diet, which emphasizes the consumption of fresh produce, whole grains, proteins, and healthy fats while discouraging sweets, processed foods, and eating late at night. In addition to reducing the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease by 50 percent, participants also lowered their risk of heart disease, colon cancer, and stroke, all while improving cognitive health.
GET TO THE GYM-- Good old-fashioned exercise is the best way to offset things like osteoporosis and other age-related health problems. Diaz, a fitness fanatic herself, shares this compelling study that resonated with her: Researchers at Stanford University examined the correlation between athletic training and health in runners over the age of 50 and found that runners had lower levels of inflammatory markers, responded better to vaccines, and showed improved mental functioning compared to their less-active peers.
In The Longevity Book, Cameron shares cutting-edge research on aging, synthesizing insights from top medical experts with her own thoughts, opinions, and experiences.
